The history of the origin of the breed

It is not known exactly when the first Schnauzers appeared. Presumably they were bred in southern Germany in the 15-16 century. (according to other data in the 18 century.) for the extermination of rodents in the stables and in the field.
The name "Schnauzer" in German means "muzzle", which corresponds to the characteristic external features of these dogs.

In Russia the first dogs of this species appeared in 1979.

Varieties

Schnauzers are presented in several types. With an overall exterior of the similarity and the nature, varieties differ in the height at withers and body weight. According to this criterion, there are the following types:


  1. Giant or Schnauzer;
  2. Standard (mittelschnauzer);
  3. Miniature or miniature Schnauzer.

The latter variety also has more color options than the others.

A group of Schnauzers has a similar appearance and character.
